OUR STORY
CULTIVATING EXCELLENCE IN SPEECH AND DEBATE COMPETITIVELY
The Thurgood Marshall Oratorical Debate (TMOD) Education Project initiative is the only urban speech and debate project in Northeast Ohio. It was developed to enhance students' debate skills and meet the rigorous literacy demands during their secondary education. This project provides intensive experience and exposure through our community literacy and government education project. TMOD focuses on four areas: Debate, Oration, Student Forums, Workshops and year-round operations for both boys and girls.
OUR EVOLUTION
What began as a singular debate format has blossomed into a multifaceted program incorporating Public Forum and Public Policy debate format. Our students also participate in oratory events, highlighted by our signature Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Brunch alone with Cuyahoga Community College TMOD Black History Student Forum, which brings together community youth mentoring groups, Delta Alpha Lambda Chapter education programs, and local school districts.

OUR MISSION
The Thurgood Marshall Oratorical Debate (TMOD) Education Project’s focus is to develop 21st Century leaders by developing the research, analytical, communication and literacy skills of middle and high school students to better advance their societal competitiveness, and to instill life-long learning.
